ABSTRACT
As the smallest part of the society, family and the change within it, is one of the most important issues related with both the individual and the society in general. Divorce that has an impact on the duration of marriage, is within the most significant problems that causes change in family unity while affecting societies. Having an impact on the disintegration of family unity and causing the individuality to come into prominence, divorce is a social problem seen in all countries. The economic and development levels of countries, cultural and traditional structures are the main determinants of marriage and also divorce. Along with the transformations that have taken place in social structures, studies on the causes and consequences of the increase in divorce rates have begun to have an important place.The aim of the study is to reveal the demographic and socioeconomical factors determining women’s marriage duration divorce risk in Turkey using accelerated failure time models. Since the models of survival analysis in relation to marriage are not only used in relation to married and/or divorced women but also used in the models where marriage continues and in the women whose husbands are dead, there is no data loss. In the study, 2013 Turkey Demographic and Health Survey TDHS data collected by Hacettepe University Institute of Population Studies were used. In the study, factors affecting the marriage duration were determined using accelerated failure time models where cultural difference between the spouses, the number of children, the working status of the woman, the education levels of the women and the men are observed as significant factors
