It is aimed to reveal on the one hand the problems of the workers regarding their working life and on the other hand their attempts to overcome those problems. In this political and social atmosphere, in which the frame of the working relationships were formed in an authoritarian way, the trade union struggles were quite weak. Under these conditions, Zonguldak Mine Workers’ Union ZMWU , although limited, made some achievements in favor of mine workers. In this study, the articles published in the Worker’s Union newspaper, which was printed under the management of the trade union were analyzed. Through these articles, the problems the miners have encountered and the solutions the trade union has put forth were examined. As a consequence, although acting cautiously, politically and pleadingly; the trade union was not as passive and weak as the common belief has suggested. It had succeeded quite a lot; solved significant problems of the miners and led to critical gains regarding their working and living conditions.
