ABSTRACT
The number and negative outcomes of workplace accidents due to working at height in the construction sector are gradually increasing. Failure to comply with working at height standards raises the question of whether it is a principal cause of the increase. The purpose of this work is therefore to investigate the adherence to standards in working at height practices from the occupational safety specialists’ point of view. The data required to achieve this objective was collected from 101 occupational safety specialists who are members of the social media sharing network through the online questionnaire survey. Working at height standards have been evaluated in five dimensions: equipment, cleanliness/layout, employees, management activities and training/information. Although the result of the analysis based on quantitative statistical techniques has determined that adherence to working at height standards varies according to the demographic and professional characteristics of the occupational safety specialists, it was found that both employers and employees do not comply with the standards of dimensions other than training/information. In the light of these findings, the recommendations have been made for workers in the industry
